Prithvi Shaw, a Mumbai cricketer, was dropped from the team for Round 3 of the Ranji Trophy. Shaw, who helped Mumbai win the tournament and the Irani Cup last season, was reportedly 'rested' due to disciplinary issues. He reacted by posting on Instagram, saying he was taking a break.
In the new season, Shaw played only two matches, scoring 7, 12 against Baroda, and 1, 39* against Maharashtra. Reports suggest that Shaw wasn’t regularly attending Mumbai's practice sessions despite his poor performance in these games.
Shaw has faced multiple off-field controversies throughout his career. In February 2023, he was involved in a fight with fans in Mumbai after refusing to take selfies, leading to an attack on his friend's car.
He was also banned for eight months in 2019 after testing positive for a banned substance, which he claimed came from cough syrup he took for a cold.
Shaw’s fitness has also been criticized. Before the 2022 IPL, he failed the mandatory Yo-Yo fitness test, scoring below the required mark of 16.5. Additionally, in May 2021, he was questioned by police for traveling to Goa during the COVID-19 lockdown without proper documents.
These off-field issues, along with his struggles in form and fitness, have overshadowed his achievements on the field, like his century on his Test debut against the West Indies in 2018. Despite his talent, Shaw’s career has been affected by these controversies.
