The Election Commission announced the schedule for the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 on Tuesday. Voting will happen in one phase on November 20, and the counting of votes will take place on November 23.

Maharashtra has 288 seats in its Legislative Assembly, and the current assembly's term ends on November 26, 2024. With the election dates announced, the Model Code of Conduct is now in effect in the state.

These elections follow recent polls in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won in Haryana, while the NC-Congress alliance was successful in Jammu and Kashmir.

Maharashtra Assembly Numbers

The Maharashtra Assembly is currently led by the Mahayuti alliance, which is headed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The government has the following strength: BJP (102 seats), NCP (40), Shiv Sena (Shiv Sena UBT) (38), BVA (3), PHJSP (2), RSP (1), JSS (1), MNS (1), and 14 independent members.

The opposition has 71 MLAs, made up of INC (37), Shiv Sena (UBT) (16), NCP (SP) (12), SP (2), CPI(M) (1), and PWPI (1). There are also 2 members from AIMIM, and currently, 15 seats in the State Legislative Assembly are vacant.

On Tuesday, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi stated that they won the trust of the people in the Lok Sabha elections and are eager for state elections to happen soon. She criticized the current government for only serving the central government and suggested that this is their last chance in power.

Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske commented on the results of the Haryana Assembly elections, claiming that Congress members are upset. He accused them of spreading false narratives during the Lok Sabha elections and questioned their credibility, especially regarding their stance on issues related to Kashmir. He emphasized that the people now see the truth and are moving away from the Congress party.
