Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has spoken out after finishing second in the 2024 Ballon d'Or voting behind Rodri from Manchester City. He suggested that his strong fight against racism might have affected the results.

The Brazilian winger, seen as a top contender after Real Madrid’s success in the Champions League and LaLiga last season, expressed his disappointment but remained determined in a social media post after the ceremony in Paris. He said, "I'll do it 10 times if I have to. They're not ready." His management team believes this statement reflects his ongoing efforts to fight racism in football, which they think may have cost him the award.

Real Madrid chose not to send anyone to the event, even canceling a private jet after hearing the results, showing their frustration. Despite this, the club still celebrated by winning the title of "Men's Club of the Year" and having Carlo Ancelotti named "Best Men's Coach." However, Vinicius's loss in the top player category disappointed many within the club.

Rodri became the first Premier League player to win the Ballon d'Or since 2008, recognizing Manchester City's treble-winning season. Real Madrid players Jude Bellingham and Dani Carvajal also ranked in the top four.

Midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni showed his support for Vinicius on social media, saying he deserved to win: "Nothing will take away what you've achieved, my brother. We ALL know... They are not ready for what you're gonna deliver. Love."

Vinicius's management told Reuters that they believe his activism against racism in Spanish football may have influenced the Ballon d'Or decision. The 24-year-old has faced racial abuse multiple times, leading to convictions for racial insults in Spain.

Real Madrid stated, "If the award criteria don't give it to Vinicius, then they should give it to Carvajal. Real Madrid does not go where it is not respected."

France Football, which organizes the Ballon d'Or, has not yet commented on Real Madrid's statement or the controversy regarding Vinicius's claims. The awards are decided by a panel of journalists from the top 100 FIFA-ranked countries, who evaluate players based on their performance over the past season.
