The Andhra Pradesh government is reviewing files to see if they can cancel a power supply deal with the Adani Group. This comes after a U.S. court charged Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani and seven others for allegedly offering $265 million (Rs 2,029 crore) in bribes to Indian officials, including those in Andhra Pradesh, to secure contracts.

Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav said the government is looking through all the related files and considering whether the contract can be canceled. The deal was made during the previous administration led by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The U.S. indictment claims the bribes were paid between 2021 and 2024 to influence officials in several states, including Andhra Pradesh, to secure solar power contracts. Of the $265 million, about $228 million was reportedly used to influence Andhra Pradesh's electricity distribution companies to buy solar power.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) claims that in August 2021, Gautam Adani and Jagan Mohan Reddy discussed incentives to secure a deal to purchase 7 gigawatts of solar power, the largest of any state.

The Adani Group has denied the accusations, calling them false. The YSR Congress Party, which was in power between 2019 and 2024, also rejected any wrongdoing, stating that there was no "direct agreement" with the Adani Group.
