KL Rahul and Axar Patel will lead the Delhi Capitals in the 2025 IPL season, announced team co-owner Parth Jindal. The franchise bought KL Rahul for ₹14 crore during the IPL auction on November 24, outbidding KKR, RCB, and CSK.

Jindal stated in a press release that both Rahul and Axar will captain the team and mentor the younger players. On the first day of the mega auction, Delhi Capitals signed nine players, including stars like Mitchell Starc, Harry Brook, and KL Rahul. They also used the Right to Match (RTM) card to retain Jake Fraser-McGurk for ₹9 crore.

“We wanted a stable, experienced player for the top order, and KL Rahul fits that perfectly. He has consistently scored over 400 runs every season, and the Kotla pitch will suit his game. We’re thrilled to have him on board,” said Jindal. He added that Rahul’s batting and experience, along with Axar’s leadership, will help guide the team’s young batting lineup.

Other key signings include Harry Brook for ₹6.25 crore, T Natarajan for ₹10.75 crore, and Karun Nair for ₹50 lakh. Delhi Capitals also acquired domestic players Sameer Rizvi (₹95 lakh) and Ashutosh Sharma (₹3.80 crore), along with experienced pacer Mohit Sharma (₹2.20 crore).

Jindal revealed that the team will focus on adding more bowlers on Day 2 of the auction, with players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mukesh Kumar still available. “We’re building a strong bowling attack and a competitive squad overall,” he said.
