The decision on who will be the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra remains unclear within the Mahayuti alliance. BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, a top contender for the position, said that all three parties in the alliance will come together to form the government.
The Mahayuti alliance won a strong victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, securing 233 out of 288 seats. However, even a week after the results, the alliance has not yet decided who will lead the government. Intense discussions are happening in both Maharashtra and Delhi, but no agreement has been reached on whether Fadnavis or Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde will become the Chief Minister.
Sources say that the BJP is pushing for Fadnavis to take the role, as he led the party to win the most seats—132. However, Shiv Sena is insisting that Eknath Shinde should be the Chief Minister, citing his leadership.
Earlier, Shiv Sena emphasized that the election victory was due to Shinde’s leadership and made it clear that he would not accept the Deputy Chief Minister’s position. Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Shirsat said that Shinde deserves to be the Chief Minister.
Today, sources say that Fadnavis, Shinde, and NCP leader Ajit Pawar will meet in Delhi with BJP national leaders to try and reach a final decision.
