Deepak Chahar will play for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2025 IPL season, marking his third IPL team after the defunct Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Chahar has been a key player for CSK, especially during the 2019 season when he claimed 22 wickets in 17 matches, maintaining an economy rate of 7.47. In his 81 IPL matches, Chahar has taken 77 wickets at an economy rate of 7.98.
However, Chahar has faced injury struggles over the past few seasons. He missed the entire 2022 IPL season due to a quadriceps injury and only played eight matches in 2023 due to another injury. His absence during the 2023 season hurt CSK, and they failed to qualify for the playoffs.
In the 2025 IPL auction, there was a bidding war between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians for Chahar. As the bid reached Rs 7.75 crore, CSK joined in, raising it to Rs 8 crore, but MI eventually won the auction by securing Chahar for Rs 9.25 crore. This is a 34% decrease in Chahar’s salary, as he was last bought by CSK for the same amount. Despite the dip in his pay, MI will find great value in Chahar’s skills, as he will join a strong pace attack with Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah.
Mumbai Indians also bid for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, but he was bought by RCB for Rs 10.75 crore.
