Australia’s white-ball star Glenn Maxwell has issued a strong warning about Steve Smith to the Indian team ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The two top teams are gearing up for a fierce five-match Test series, with Australia determined to end their losing streak. Since winning the 2014-15 BGT 2-0, Australia has lost the last four series to India, under captains Virat Kohli (2016-17, 2018-19), Ajinkya Rahane (2021), and Rohit Sharma (2023).

Although Australia claimed the World Test Championship title last year by defeating India in the final, they have struggled for consistency in longer Test series.

Maxwell, currently playing in the ODI series against Pakistan, believes Steve Smith is fully prepared for the upcoming challenge. He praised Smith’s form after observing him in the nets.

"Steve Smith looks sharp with his footwork, timing, and overall movement. He seemed completely unfazed, handling even tricky deliveries with ease. That shows he’s focused and in sync with his technique," Maxwell said on ESPN’s Around the Cricket show.

Smith has been a standout performer against India, scoring 2042 runs in 19 Tests at an impressive average of 65.87, including 9 centuries. The former Australian captain thrives in these high-pressure matches.
