Sri Lanka and Bangladesh secured wins in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up matches on Monday, as Sri Lanka claimed their second victory, and Pakistan suffered a second consecutive defeat.

Sri Lanka delivered a strong performance against Scotland, dismissing them for just 58 runs. Udeshika Prabodani and Sachini Nisansala stood out, each taking two wickets. Scotland struggled to build momentum, with only Sarah Bryce and Rachel Slater reaching double figures. In response, Sri Lanka’s chase wasn’t without trouble, as Scotland managed to dismiss both Sri Lankan openers early. Kathryn Bryce bowled a superb inswinger to remove Vishmi Gunaratne, giving Scotland some hope. However, the low target wasn’t enough for a significant fightback. Kaveesha Dilhari led Sri Lanka’s recovery, guiding them to a comfortable five-wicket win and boosting the team’s confidence ahead of the main tournament.

Bangladesh beat Pakistan

Meanwhile, Pakistan faced another setback as they lost to Bangladesh by 23 runs. Bangladesh chose to bat first and were at a tricky 94/5 after 16 overs. Just as it seemed Pakistan might restrict them to a low score, Shorna Akter’s quickfire 28* off 17 balls propelled Bangladesh to a respectable total of 140/7. Pakistan’s bowlers had done well to keep Bangladesh under pressure for most of the innings, but Akter’s late flourish proved crucial.

In reply, Pakistan started confidently but couldn’t maintain their momentum, eventually falling short of the target. This loss marks their second defeat in the warm-up games, raising concerns about their form heading into the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The warm-up matches have provided teams with a chance to fine-tune their strategies, and Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be pleased with their performances so far.
