Wrestler Vinesh Phogat, representing the Congress party, won the Julana seat in the Haryana Assembly election held on Tuesday, defeating her BJP opponent, Yogesh Kumar, by a margin of 6,015 votes. This marks Phogat's first electoral victory, making her entry into politics notable. Surender Lather from the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) finished third in this high-profile constituency located in Jind district.

Phogat began the counting process strong, initially leading, but she faced a dip and fell behind at one point. Despite this, she fought back, regained her lead, and maintained it for a comfortable win, showcasing her determination and resilience.

In the previous 2019 elections, the Julana seat was won by Amarjeet Dhanda of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), which was part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Before that, the seat was secured by Parminder Singh Dhull from the INLD in both 2014 and 2009.

The Haryana Assembly elections were conducted in a single phase on October 5, with an overall voter turnout of 67.90%. In Julana specifically, the turnout was higher at 74.66%, reflecting strong voter engagement in the constituency. Phogat’s victory not only marks a significant personal achievement but also indicates a shift in voter sentiment in the region.
