On June 4, when the Congress defied exit poll predictions and won 99 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, MP Rahul Gandhi quickly held a press conference to criticize the BJP for "capturing institutions" and thanked voters for "saving" democracy.
However, on October 8, after the Congress suffered a crushing defeat in Haryana, Rahul Gandhi remained silent. The party couldn't take advantage of the BJP's 10-year anti-incumbency, leading to a poor performance. Meanwhile, the Congress also lost in Jammu, though it is set to form a government with its partner, National Conference, in the Union Territory.
Both Rahul Gandhi and his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, have not commented or tweeted about the loss in Haryana. However, senior Congress leaders like Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera spoke to the media, accusing the Election Commission of delaying updates on the Haryana election results.
The BJP, which surged past Congress in the early trends and eventually won 48 seats compared to Congress's 37, dismissed these allegations. Jairam Ramesh claimed that the results were not updated on time and accused the Commission of manipulating the process. He even wrote to the Election Commission to express his concerns, but the Commission rejected Congress's claims.
The BJP responded by accusing Congress of "crying" over the loss. While Rahul and Priyanka stayed silent, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge called the Haryana result "unexpected" and said the party would review the situation after gathering all the necessary information from its workers.
RAHUL GANDHI ON THE CHARGE ON JUNE 4
Unlike the silence on October 8, Rahul Gandhi was very active on social media and held a press conference earlier when the Congress-led INDIA bloc defied exit poll predictions and won 234 seats.
He praised the people of Uttar Pradesh, where the bloc defeated the BJP, saying, "UP did wonders." He also thanked the voters for "saving the Constitution."
Criticizing the BJP, whose goal of winning 400 seats fell short with only 240 (32 less than needed for a majority), Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of "capturing institutions."
He stated, "The country has spoken clearly—we do not want Narendra Modi and Amit Shah running this country. People don’t like how they have governed or attacked the Constitution. That’s a strong message to Modi."
On June 6, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also took to X (formerly Twitter) to thank the Samajwadi Party for the INDIA bloc's success in Uttar Pradesh, where it won 43 seats while the BJP was reduced to 36.
However, four months later, both Rahul and Priyanka have remained silent about the Congress's poor performance in Haryana.
