Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday at his residence in Delhi. This meeting took place a day after the BJP surprised the Congress by winning a record third term in the Haryana Assembly elections.
There is a possibility that Nayab Singh Saini will continue as Chief Minister after the BJP's success in the state, where it secured a majority by winning 48 out of 90 seats. Saini is currently in Delhi to discuss his new Cabinet with senior BJP leaders, according to sources quoted by the news agency PTI.
On Tuesday, the BJP came from behind to defeat the Congress, achieving its best-ever result in Haryana with 48 seats, and preventing the Congress from making a comeback. Despite exit polls predicting a comfortable win for the Congress, the BJP is set to form the government for the third consecutive time.
Nayab Singh Saini contested from the Ladwa constituency and defeated Congress candidate Mewa Singh by 16,054 votes.
The Congress, which was leading in early vote counts, ended up with 37 seats. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won two seats, and three Independent candidates were also victorious. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which contested the election alone after failing to reach a seat-sharing agreement with Congress, did not win any seats. The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), which won 10 seats in 2019, also failed to win any seats this time.
Thanking the voters, Nayab Singh Saini said people had endorsed the government’s policies under the leadership of PM Modi.
PM Modi spoke to the Haryana Chief Minister and congratulated him and the BJP for their victory. He stated that all communities voted for the party due to its good governance.
