Omar Abdullah is set to take the oath as the first Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir since it became a Union Territory. His National Conference (NC) party won the region’s first Assembly election since the removal of Article 370.

The swearing-in ceremony for Omar Abdullah and his ministers will be held today at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), according to officials. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will administer the oath at 11:30 am.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Omar Abdullah said, "We have a lot of work ahead" and promised that his government will listen to the concerns of the people. "People need to feel that this is their government, and they will be heard. They haven't been heard for the past 5-6 years. It’s our duty to listen and take action," he said.

The NC has invited several leaders from the INDIA alliance to the ceremony, including Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Others invited include Sharad Pawar, Akhilesh Yadav, Lalu Prasad Yadav, M K Stalin, Uddhav Thackeray, Hemant Soren, Mehbooba Mufti, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, and Arvind Kejriwal. However, it is still unclear who will attend.

On Monday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha invited Omar Abdullah to take the oath as Chief Minister, following the government's decision to lift President’s rule in the Union Territory.

The National Conference (NC) Legislature Party had unanimously elected Omar Abdullah as its leader last Thursday, clearing the way for his second term as Chief Minister. His first term was from 2009 to 2014, when Jammu and Kashmir was still a state.

In the recent election, the NC won 42 out of 90 seats, and Congress secured six. Together, they have a majority in the 95-member assembly, with additional support from five Independent MLAs-elect and one MLA-elect from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
