Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has once again sparked controversy with her recent Instagram post, where she seemingly downplayed Mahatma Gandhi’s status as the Father of the Nation. Her post, shared on Gandhi Jayanti, was meant to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary, which falls on the same day.
In her Instagram story, Kangana stated, “The country doesn’t have fathers; it has sons. Blessed are these sons of Mother India.” She also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for continuing Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy of cleanliness. Her comments were perceived as a direct comparison between Lal Bahadur Shastri and Mahatma Gandhi, which quickly drew backlash from political leaders.

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate strongly condemned Kangana’s remarks and accused her of being the BJP’s “new Godse devotee.” She said, “On Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, Kangana made a disparaging comment about the Father of the Nation. Godse worshippers draw distinctions between Bapu and Shastri Ji. Will Narendra Modi forgive his party’s new Godse devotee? There is the Father of the Nation, there are sons, and there are martyrs. Everyone deserves respect.”
Even BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia criticized Kangana, stating that she has developed a habit of making controversial comments. He condemned her remarks made on Mahatma Gandhi’s 155th birth anniversary, stating, “In her short political career, she has made many statements that create trouble for the party. Politics is not her field, and it is a serious affair. One must think before speaking.”
This is not the first time Kangana has been in the spotlight for her remarks. She previously faced backlash for her comments on the farmers’ protests, where she claimed that the agitation was creating a Bangladesh-like situation in India and even alleged that rapes were taking place at the protest sites.
