Zeeshan Siddique, son of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, joined Ajit Pawar's NCP faction on Friday. Zeeshan, who was expelled from Congress in August for allegedly cross-voting in the Maharashtra legislative council elections, will now contest the Maharashtra Assembly elections from the Bandra East seat, which he previously won in 2019 with Congress.

Calling it an emotional day, Zeeshan expressed gratitude to Ajit Pawar and other NCP leaders for supporting him during tough times. He said he is determined to win the Bandra East seat again with the help of the people.

Tragically, Baba Siddique was shot and killed on October 12 outside Zeeshan's office while celebrating Diwali. A member of the Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility, saying Baba was targeted due to his connection with actor Salman Khan.

The Bandra East seat was recently allocated to Shiv Sena (UBT) as part of a seat-sharing agreement within the Maha Vikas Aghadi, with Varun Sardesai, Uddhav Thackeray’s nephew, chosen as the candidate. Zeeshan criticized Congress, saying it often acted under Shiv Sena's (UBT) pressure and didn't value his long-standing loyalty.

Zeeshan emphasized that his father’s dream was for him to defend the Bandra East seat and serve the people. He vowed to fulfill this dream, saying, “His blood runs in my veins. I will carry on his fight and win by a record margin.”

Reflecting on his father’s murder, Zeeshan wondered if he had been the intended target, as the attack happened outside his office. He added that his father’s absence is deeply felt, noting that Baba had hoped to see him and his sister married.
