Tamil actor Vijay made a powerful political entry, targeting Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK in his first political speech at a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam rally. He accused the ruling family of exploiting the state through secretive deals, claiming they are deceiving minorities in the name of Dravidian values.
At the rally in Vikravandi, Villupuram district, Vijay criticized both the DMK and BJP, calling out hate-driven politics as the main enemy. "Divisive politics and hatred are our true opponents," he said, adding, "This crowd is here for a cause, not for money. There's no turning back."
Vijay noted that those using the Dravidian ideology for personal gain are one group he opposes, while the BJP is an ideological rival, and the DMK is a political adversary. At 50, Vijay’s entry into politics comes as the state experiences a leadership gap, especially with the AIADMK still regrouping after the passing of its leader J Jayalalithaa.
Declaring his intent to be a major force in Tamil Nadu, Vijay announced that his party would contest all 234 seats in the 2026 assembly elections and would consider power-sharing. He aligned his party’s values with Dravidian social justice and women’s empowerment, inspired by leaders like Periyar, Kamaraj, Ambedkar, Velu Nachiar, and Anjalai Ammal. However, Vijay clarified that his party would not oppose religious beliefs, unlike Periyar’s “No god” stance.
