External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar criticized Pakistan during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on Wednesday. He said that if the relationship between two countries involves extremism and separatism, it won't help improve trade or other activities.
He stated, "For development and growth, we need peace and stability." He emphasized that this requires a strong commitment to fighting against terrorism, extremism, and separatism. Jaishankar said that such negative activities will not encourage trade, energy exchanges, or connections between people.
He stressed the importance of honest conversations, trust, and good neighborly relations, and reaffirmed the need to follow the SCO Charter. He added that cooperation should be based on mutual respect and recognize each nation's sovereignty and integrity, rather than one-sided agendas.
Jaishankar also shared India's global initiatives for sustainability and development, which include projects like the International Solar Alliance and efforts to promote Yoga and protect big cats.
He pointed out that the world is facing difficult times due to major conflicts and the ongoing challenges from COVID-19, such as rising debt. He emphasized that the solution lies in building trust, friendship, and regional cooperation.
Jaishankar congratulated Pakistan on its presidency of the SCO summit and expressed India's full support for a successful event.
He is leading India’s delegation at the SCO summit, which focuses on cooperation in politics, economics, security, and defense among Eurasian countries. This visit is significant as it's the first by a senior Indian official to Pakistan in almost ten years, but no bilateral talks between India and Pakistan are planned.
