Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s helicopter was inspected by election officials in Latur, Maharashtra, on Tuesday during his visit for a campaign. This happened amid a controversy over similar checks on Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray's bags in Yavatmal and Latur.
A video from Latur shows officials boarding Gadkari’s helicopter and inspecting several bags after he landed. Earlier, Election Commission sources said Thackeray’s bag checks were standard procedures to ensure fairness during elections. However, Thackeray criticized the repeated inspections, calling them unnecessary harassment aimed at the Opposition ahead of the November 20 Assembly polls.
The inspections are part of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which includes surprise checks to prevent the distribution of gifts or money to influence voters. Thackeray’s first check happened on Monday in Yavatmal, followed by another in Latur on Tuesday during a rally for Sena (UBT) candidate Dinkar Mane.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) shared a video of Thackeray questioning poll officials about the repeated checks. In the footage, Thackeray, visibly annoyed, asked for the officials’ details and inquired why he was always the first to be searched. He also questioned whether similar checks were done for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah during their visits.
