In recent years, stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui has faced accusations from Hindu groups who claim he offended them during one of his shows, but he has denied these allegations. Now, he has reportedly received threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, led by the jailed gangster who is under investigation for the murder of former minister Baba Siddique.
This news about another celebrity being targeted by the Bishnoi gang comes after police arrested three suspected gang members. These arrests were made after the assailants shot Baba Siddique in Bandra (East) on Saturday.
On the same day, the Delhi Police also arrested a shooter linked to the murder of a gym owner in South Delhi last month, who was targeted by both the Bishnoi gang and another gang.
Earlier, in August 2022, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) started investigating the Bishnoi gang and its associates under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Their investigations revealed that the gang has expanded its criminal activities across multiple states in India.
These criminal networks have been involved in high-profile crimes, including the murder of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022, and they have been extorting money from businesses and professionals.
The NIA has also found that many of the gang's plans were allegedly coordinated from abroad, especially Canada, or directed by leaders of organized crime groups operating within Indian prisons.
