A MiG-29 fighter jet crashed into a field near Agra, Uttar Pradesh, during a routine training flight because of a technical problem, according to the Indian Air Force and defense officials. The pilot safely ejected before the crash.
The jet had taken off from Adampur in Punjab and was heading to Agra for training when the incident occurred. The Air Force reported that the pilot was able to steer the aircraft to avoid damage to people or property on the ground before ejecting. An investigation has been launched to find out what caused the crash.
Images from the scene showed smoke rising from the wreckage, and onlookers had gathered nearby. A formal inquiry into the crash will be conducted.
This isn't the first time a MiG-29 has crashed. On September 2, another MiG-29 crashed in Barmer, Rajasthan, after experiencing a technical issue, but the pilot also managed to eject safely before the plane went down. The aircraft caught fire after crashing into an unpopulated field near Uttarlai.
