Bengaluru is expected to have a rainy week ahead, with cloudy skies and occasional showers continuing for the next 2-3 days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The city has already received 72 mm of rain in October.
IMD's 7-day forecast predicts moderate to heavy rains in Bengaluru from October 14 to 17. Other areas, including Bengaluru Rural, Chikballapura, and Kolar districts, are also likely to experience heavy rain this week. During this period, the maximum temperature is expected to stay below 27°C, with cloudy weather throughout the day.
The heavy rain could worsen traffic in Bengaluru, as many roads tend to flood after even a short rainfall. The BBMP and Bengaluru police are on alert and ready to handle any issues.
Last month, Bengaluru experienced one of the driest Septembers in recent history, with just 23.9 mm of rainfall. This made it the second driest September on record and the fifth driest since the late 1800s, according to the IMD. The driest September was in 1934, with only 8.3 mm of rain. Other dry Septembers were in 1928 (18.7 mm), 1911 (19.8 mm), and 1885 (20.6 mm). More recently, low rainfall was recorded in September 2016 (33.2 mm) and 2012 (68.4 mm).
A Yellow alert has been issued for several districts in Karnataka, including Ramanagara, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, and Kodagu, where heavy thunderstorms are expected. District officials have been advised to take necessary precautions.
