A 21-year-old woman was gang-raped by three men who posed as human rights activists in Pune on Thursday night. The woman had gone to the Bopdev Ghat area with a male friend when the incident occurred. The suspects not only sexually assaulted her but also beat up her friend.

According to the police, one of the suspects, 36-year-old Raje Khan Karim Pathan from Kondhwa, has been arrested. The incident started when Pathan approached the woman and her friend in a car, claiming to be a human rights activist. He falsely stated that couples were not allowed in the area and began taking photos of the duo. Pathan then threatened the woman, forced her into his car, and drove her to another location. There, he and two other men joined in and gang-raped her.

The survivor’s friend, who tried to intervene, was also beaten up by the accused. After the assault, the suspects left the woman at the location and fled. The woman, who was found injured, was taken to a hospital for treatment. She later filed a complaint with the Kondhwa police station early on Friday morning, leading to the arrest of Pathan.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the survivor had sustained multiple injuries. Senior police officers and special teams from the Crime Branch are currently investigating the case. The police have launched a search for the other two suspects involved in the crime.

As many as 10 teams from the Crime Branch and Detection Branch (DB) have been deployed to locate and arrest the remaining suspects. Senior police officers are overseeing the investigation, ensuring that all efforts are being made to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.
