On Sunday, Donald Trump repeated his personal insults about Vice President Kamala Harris' mental fitness, even though some Republican allies have advised him to focus on key issues instead.
At a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, Trump said, “Joe Biden became mentally impaired. It’s sad, but lying Kamala Harris, honestly, I believe she was born that way.” He made similar remarks the night before in Wisconsin, calling Harris “mentally impaired” and blaming her for issues like illegal immigration.
Some Republicans responded, urging Trump to stick to policy topics. Senator Lindsey Graham, a close Trump supporter, said he doesn’t think Harris is mentally impaired but referred to her as a “crazy liberal.” He encouraged Trump to focus on the economy, border issues, and foreign policy, areas where voters trust him more.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer also suggested that Republicans “stick to the issues” rather than make personal attacks. Similarly, former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan criticized Trump’s comments, saying they were offensive to people with real mental disabilities.
While some Republicans pushed back on Trump’s remarks, others like former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy defended Trump’s position, linking it to Harris’ management of immigration policy.
In response, a spokesperson for Harris’ campaign said Trump has nothing positive to offer voters and only spreads negativity.
