Four Indians died near Toronto, Canada, after the Tesla they were in crashed into a divider and caught fire shortly after midnight. It's unclear where they were headed or if the car was in self-driving mode.
The victims included siblings Keta Gohil, 30, and Nil Gohil, 26, from Godhra, Gujarat, along with two others, one of whom had recently become a Canadian citizen. After the crash, the Tesla’s battery caught fire, and all four people inside died at the scene.
A woman in her 20s was pulled from the burning car by a passerby and was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Eyewitnesses said several people tried to break the windows to help those inside.
Toronto Fire Deputy Chief Jim Jessop mentioned that an "exponential" amount of water is needed to put out an electric car fire. After the fire was extinguished, the car’s battery was placed in a dumpster filled with sand and moved to a dump yard.
In a similar incident in July, three students from Punjab, India, died in Canada when their car went off a highway. They were thrown out of the vehicle and died at the scene, while the driver suffered serious injuries.
