Thousands of Canadian Hindus gathered outside the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton on Monday night, showing support after the temple was attacked by pro-Khalistan supporters the day before. The rally was organized by the Coalition of Hindus in North America (CoHNA).

CoHNA posted on social media, saying, “Over a thousand Canadian Hindus have come together in Brampton to protest the increasing attacks on Hindu temples. Just yesterday, during Diwali, Hindu temples across Canada were attacked. We urge Canada to stop this anti-Hindu hate.”

The marchers waved Canadian and Indian flags and chanted "Jai Shri Ram" along with anti-Khalistan slogans. Some participants shared their concerns, with one saying that Hindus in Canada have faced discrimination for about 20 years. Another participant called on Canada to treat Hindus fairly, emphasizing that Hindu Canadians are loyal citizens.

The gathering aimed to protest not just the temple attack, but also the discrimination that attendees said they have faced for years. Some attendees mentioned being treated unfairly by the police during Sunday’s incident.

On Sunday, people waving Khalistani flags clashed with temple visitors. Unverified videos online showed protesters holding pro-Khalistan signs and flags. Police have since arrested three individuals on charges of assault and attacking a police officer.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, urging the Canadian government to "ensure justice and uphold the rule of law." Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also spoke out, saying that all Canadians have the right to practice their faith safely. However, some criticized Trudeau for not directly addressing “Khalistani extremism.”

This incident has further strained relations between India and Canada. In September 2023, Trudeau claimed that Canadian security had credible information linking India to the killing of Khalistani supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India, which considers Nijjar a terrorist, denied these allegations. However, Canada has not acted against other pro-Khalistan groups, which continue to promote Khalistan independence.
