The death toll from floods and landslides in Nepal has reached 192, with 30 people still missing, officials reported on Sunday.
Since Friday, heavy rain has caused widespread flooding, especially in eastern and central Nepal. Police confirmed that 192 people have died due to these disasters, while 30 are unaccounted for. Additionally, 94 people have been injured in flood-related incidents.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, involving all security agencies. The Nepal Army has airlifted 162 people from different parts of the country, and around 4,000 people affected by the floods have been rescued by the Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force. Relief materials, including food, have been distributed to those rescued.
In the Balkhu area near Kathmandu, meals were provided to 400 people with the help of social workers. Many national highways have been blocked since Saturday, leaving hundreds stranded due to landslides. Efforts are being made to clear these roads, and transport has resumed on the Tribhuvan Highway, which connects Kathmandu to other districts.

The floods have damaged at least 322 houses and 16 bridges. Eyewitnesses say they have never seen such severe flooding in the Kathmandu Valley in the last 40 to 45 years. Climate and environmental expert Arun Bhakta Shrestha noted the unprecedented scale of the flooding in Kathmandu.
The main river in Kathmandu, the Bagmati, has been flowing above danger levels after heavy rain fell on Friday and Saturday. A low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal and unusual weather patterns caused this intense rainfall.
Scientists warn that climate change is altering rainfall patterns across Asia, and poor construction practices in flood-prone areas are worsening the impact of floods.
The floods and landslides have disrupted life in many regions, burying houses and bridges and displacing families. Thousands of passengers are stranded due to blocked roads.
On Saturday, at least 19 people died when a bus was buried in a landslide in Dhading district near Kathmandu. Five people lost their lives when a house collapsed in Bhaktapur, and six football players died in a landslide at a training center in Makwanpur. Others have been swept away by floodwaters.
