Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has issued a warning, telling people not to fly on Air India flights between November 1 and 19. He claimed that an attack could happen on an Air India flight during these dates, which mark the 40th anniversary of the Sikh genocide.
Pannun, who leads the group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and holds dual citizenship in Canada and the US, had made a similar threat around the same time last year. This latest warning comes as several airlines in India have been receiving fake bomb threats. It also follows a tense period in India-Canada relations after Canada accused India of targeting Khalistani activists, including the murder of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
In November 2023, Pannun released a video threatening that Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport would be closed on November 19 and advised people not to fly on Air India that day. The National Investigation Agency has charged him with conspiracy, inciting hatred, and other crimes under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Pannun has a history of making threats, including one last December to attack the Indian Parliament, and earlier this year, he threatened to kill Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and State Police Chief Gaurav Yadav on Republic Day.
Designated as a terrorist since July 2020, Pannun and his group SFJ push for a separate Sikh state and have been banned in India for anti-national activities. In a related case, the US recently accused a former Indian intelligence officer of plotting to kill Pannun, a claim India has denied.
