The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Tuesday that Suhail Hussein Husseini, the head of Hezbollah’s logistics unit, was killed in airstrikes in the Beirut area on Monday. According to the IDF, the operation was conducted with precise direction from their Intelligence Division and targeted a compound in Beirut. Husseini’s death was confirmed through an official post on social media. Hezbollah has not yet responded to the incident.
This strike follows a series of targeted operations against high-ranking officials in the region. Earlier, on October 3, the IDF reported the killing of three senior Hamas leaders in Gaza, including Rawhi Mushtaha, head of Hamas’s Gaza government, along with commanders Sameh Siraj and Sameh Oudeh. The airstrike hit an underground compound in northern Gaza, which Israel described as a strategic target aimed at weakening the leadership of the Palestinian militant group.
In September, another Israeli airstrike in Beirut resulted in the death of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, a significant blow to the Iran-backed group. These targeted strikes are part of Israel’s ongoing strategy to dismantle the leadership and operational capacity of militant groups like Hezbollah and Hamas.
The Middle East has been gripped by a surge in violence over the past year, with tensions escalating dramatically after Hamas launched a large-scale attack on Israel. The attack, which killed around 1,200 people and took over 200 hostages, triggered a full-scale war in Gaza. The conflict has led to widespread destruction and resulted in more than 41,000 deaths, according to recent reports.
The situation remains highly volatile, with both sides continuing to engage in airstrikes and military operations. The humanitarian impact has been devastating, as thousands of civilians have been displaced, and efforts to reach a ceasefire have so far been unsuccessful.
