The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Nashik due to heavy rainfall, while orange alerts are in place for Palghar, Pune, Nandurbar, and Dhule. Almost every city in Maharashtra is under a yellow alert for the day.
Mumbai is preparing for heavy rain in the coming days, especially in the Konkan region. The latest weather report says there is a cyclonic circulation over north-central Maharashtra, which will bring more rain.
Today, heavy rain hit several areas in Mumbai. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation expects a cloudy day with chances of moderate rain and thunderstorms across the city and its suburbs.
The Konkan and Goa region, along with central Maharashtra, is likely to see light to moderate rain throughout the week. September 27 is considered critical, with heavy rainfall expected in some areas, and the IMD predicts that some places could get over 12 centimeters of rain.
Heavy Rain Lashes Mumbai Road
The weather department has forecast light to moderate rain in most areas of north-central Maharashtra, many parts of south-central Maharashtra, and a few locations in Marathwada.
Starting September 28, the chance of heavy rain will extend to different areas in central Maharashtra and Gujarat. With isolated heavy rain expected, officials are urging residents to stay cautious and prepared. There is also a moderate risk of flash floods in several watersheds, especially in southern Gujarat and the coastal areas of Konkan and Goa.
Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain. Local authorities are keeping a close eye on the situation and are ready to respond to any emergencies caused by flooding.
On September 25, heavy rain hit Mumbai and surrounding areas, causing significant problems and pushing the total rainfall for September well above the average of 350 mm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported 169 mm of rain at Colaba and 170 mm at Santacruz, with some neighborhoods receiving as much as 276 mm in just a few hours.
