Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and a self-described supporter of "dark gothic MAGA" (Make America Great Again), appears to have made himself at home at President-elect Donald Trump's Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago. According to CNN, Musk has been sitting in on calls with world leaders and giving input on various matters.
Since Trump's election win, Mar-a-Lago has become the center of his presidential transition. Musk has been seen dining and golfing with Trump at the estate. On Sunday, tech journalist Kara Swisher told CNN that Musk seems in no hurry to leave, joking that "he won't leave until Trump throws him out." She noted that both men enjoy being in the spotlight.
CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins reported that Musk has even been present during important calls with world leaders. For instance, when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called to congratulate Trump on his victory, Musk was reportedly in the room. After Trump spoke to Zelenskyy, Musk also joined the conversation, assuring the Ukrainian leader that his Starlink satellite service would continue to support Ukraine.
Musk has also started weighing in on political matters. He recently endorsed Senator Rick Scott in the Republican Senate leadership race. Scott, a strong supporter of Trump, has backed the idea of using recess appointments to bypass Congress, a move that could face resistance from Senate Democrats.
Musk, who is close to Trump and Trump’s transition co-chair Howard Lutnick, has reportedly made an impression on the President-elect. During his victory speech, Trump praised Musk, saying, “We have to protect our geniuses; we don’t have that many of them.”
According to the Associated Press, Musk’s political action committee (PAC) spent around $200 million to support Trump’s election. Despite not holding any formal government position, Musk is said to have significant influence. Collins noted that Musk’s impact on Trump’s decisions is evident, even without an official role.
