After targeting senior Hezbollah leaders in Lebanon and launching attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen, an Israeli airstrike killed three Palestinian leaders in Beirut early Monday, according to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), as reported by Reuters. The strike hit the top floor of an apartment building in Beirut’s Kola district, eyewitnesses said.
The day before, Israel launched strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, including a power plant and an oil import seaport, according to the Israeli military. Sources said that one of the attacks was on Yemen’s Hodeidah port.
These events came shortly after Hezbollah confirmed the deaths of its senior commander Ali Karaki, leader Hassan Nasrallah, and another key figure, Nabil Kaouk, in Israeli airstrikes on Beirut. Following these attacks, the Israeli military stated that it conducted a “precise strike” in the Dahyieh area of Beirut.
Meanwhile, fighting continued along the Israel-Lebanon border, with Lebanon launching a projectile into the West Bank after the deadly Israeli strikes. Heavy bombing has killed over 700 people and displaced around 118,000 since the conflict began, according to The Guardian. On Friday, at least 11 people were killed, and 108 were injured in airstrikes in Beirut, marking the largest attack on the city in the past year.
More than 70,000 people have fled Lebanon, says UN refugee agency
After Israel launched its air attack campaign against Lebanon based Hezbollah militant group, more than 1,000 people have died and over 6,000 have been injured. Now, the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR has said that over 70,000 people have fled the country.
The UNHCR, in a post on X, said “The situation is dire for civilians devastated by Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon. More than 70,000 people have fled the country so far.”
Talking about the displaced issue, Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati had earlier said that there could be close to 1 million internally displaced people in Lebanon who have fled Israeli attacks, according to an Al Jazeera’s report.
